Behind the Bench
Jamie L. Lopez, Becky Raizman, and Christina Paquette attended the Pasadena Bar Association Presents: Brown Bag Lunch with the Honorable Elaine Lu at the Pasadena Courthouse. After lunch team HS&A received a private “behind the bench” tour of the Pasadena Courthouse halls behind the courtrooms and also visited with the Honorable Jeffrey K. Winikow.

Lawyers Giving Back
Don Hernandez and Jack Schaedel believe that helping others and giving back to the community are vitally important. Both tenants are among the core values and goals here at HS&A. The ABA Journal frequently features lawyers giving back to their communities and in the March issue, HS&A paralegal, Carrie Thompson is seen in action creating holiday cheer for the American Red Cross’ Holiday Mail for Heroes program. HS&A has participated in this annual campaign since 2011.

Have you ever wondered what Jason Bourne would have looked like if The Bourne Identity had been made in 1980? No? Well, Warner Brothers probably wonders. In 1981, the film rights to Robert Ludlum’s 1980 spy novel, The Bourne Identity, were acquired by Winwood/Glen Productions (WGP), owned by Anthony Lazzarino and Henry Morrison. WGP sold the rights to Warner Bros’s predecessor Orion Pictures in exchange for a 3.75% interest and presentation credit.

Let’s Hear it for the Team!
Jack Schaedel led team Lake Avenue Hooligans to a sweet victory at the recent PBA Wine & Trivia Night. The team included HS&A’s Agnes M. Sullivan , Jamie Lopez, Christina Paquette, and Martin Sullivan. For Schaedel, the event marked his second consecutive win as team captain.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) the domain of what is “necessary” for litigation includes dry cleaning underwear and so much more. In the past, the SPLC has fought courageous battles which have helped end discriminatory, violent, and demeaning practices by community organizations, county payroll departments, and vigilantes. Yet, the SPLC today bears a poor resemblance to its former self, seemingly embodying a culture of greed and excess more than one of devotion to a just cause.
